INSTRUMENTS & CONTROLLERS
A recording studio without a piano somehow doesn't seem complete, but more than that, we believe it's inspiring to have a large collection of top-quality instruments and controllers on hand - it can often lead to inventing parts or arranging tracks in a way that otherwise wouldn't have seen the light of day - plus of course it's just plain good fun! We take pride in keeping everything in tip-top condition, from fanatically tuned drums to freshly strung guitars, so please feel free to take advantage of anything we have here as it's all included in the price (piano tuning charged separately).
YAMAHA C3 6'1 GRAND PIANO
A good acoustic piano can make the world of difference to a recording, and this one is great! Yamahas are widely regarded as the best 'jazz/rock’ pianos, and thanks to a nice voicing job by Yamaha UK's senior piano-tech, this one crosses over nicely for classical use too. Only around 3 years old and very well maintained. Please book tuning in advance if you require it.

RHODES MK1 SUITCASE 88
Bring on the funk! The Rhodes is a classic instrument, and we believe that this is one of the finest examples in the UK - late Mk1 heritage, recently restored by Hammond Hire, full 88-note keyboard with 'Suitcase' 4x12" speaker cabinet, and custom 'Miles' EQ mod switch which really brings out the bite.

MOOG PIANOBAR
Developed in conjunction with synth and performace-controller legend Don Buchla, our Moog PianoBar can be fitted to either our piano or our Rhodes to give an extremely accurate MIDI representation of your performance including dynamics and pedal movements - great for layering sounds or allowing the complete replacement and editing of a part at mixdown if required.

|
|
MOOG VOYAGER BLUE DIAL
However good software synths get, there's nothing like bags of real knobs to bring inspiration when using a synth, and what a sound - it's low end in particular sits in the mix like nothing else. A modern classic.

ROLAND A50
Long discontinued but much sought after, the Roland A50 has the best feel of any 7-octave synth-action controller keyboard, which for those who can play is the ideal type when combined with weighted action MIDI entry via our piano or Rhodes and the Moog PianoBar. The A50 also benefits from polyphonic aftertouch and a Roland-style pitch/mod bend lever in addition to standard type wheels.

NOVATION NOCTURN
In conjunction with their innovative AutoMap software, Novation's Nocturn is able to instantly take control of virtually any plug-in processor or instrument - gret when you're at our MIDI station away from the console. Its handy Speed Dial gives you instant knob-control of any screen parameter you hover the mouse over.

AKAI MPD16
When only that MPC vibe will do for beat creation, Akai's MPD16 comes to the rescue, offering control over any rhythm sound source in the studio.

FENDER 'DAN SMITH' 1982 US STRAT
Although Fender's quality had gone seriously downhill in the late 70s and early 80s, production supremo Dan Smith was hired to revive their fortunes, and he did so by cutting output to a fraction of previous levels and massively boosting quality. The famous 'Dan Smith' Strats were among the very last guitars to be made on the original Fender jigs, and this particular example is in excellent condition having been laid down by an astute collector for over 25 years, only recently having been removed from its box for the first time!

GIBSON LES PAUL CLASSIC
The Classic combines the best ingredients that made the Les Paul name great - maple top, mahogany back and 60s slim-tapered neck, rosewood fretboard, 496R neck humbucker, 500T at the bridge, cream pickguard and a host of other details. This model also weighs significantly less than most Les Pauls making it much more comfortable to play for long sessions.

MARTIN DC16 GTEP ACOUSTIC
Martin guitars will need no introduction to acoustic players, and the DC16 is a particularly fine example - crystal clear picking but still with bags of bottom end, and just seems to keep on giving the harder you strum. The cutaway gives easy access to the top of the neck, and although we would generally mic this externally, there's a very reasonable mic and piezo pickup built in, along with a Fishman Pro preamp to blend the two signals together which can make a nice alternative.

FENDER US STANDARD 1962 REISSUE JAZZ BASS
Check out forums and you'll find that this is probably the most-loved Jazz Bass for its sound and playability - adjectives such as 'meaty', 'smooth', 'amazing', 'articulate' and 'versatile' abound. This example has been stripped back to the real wood and has been maintained with beeswax for a lovely finish.

DW Custom Satin Oil Drum Kit
We decided that if you're going to have an in-house kit, it had better be the best, and they don't come much finer than the Custom series from DW - the Rolls Royce of drum makers. We had to wait almost a year to get our hands on this, but it was worth it, and we like to think we've done it justice by our fanatical approach to tuning! The kick is an 18x22" fitted out with a Remo Powerstroke 4 head, Falam Slam pad and separate front and rear-head mufflers for fine tone control, while there are 8x10" & 9x12" rack toms, and 14x14" & 16x16" floor toms - although floor toms are not as fashionable as they were, the solid footing really helps to add resonance when recording. We have Remo Powerstroke 3 heads on the toms as standard, but also keep single-ply coated heads for a lighter sound if you prefer (please let us know in advance if possible).

SONOR 3007 MAPLE PICCOLO SNARE 5 x 10"
Piccolo's are now more popular than ever, and after auditioning many, we just had to have this one - great as a second snare or for hip hop and other contemporary styles.
